Periodontitis (gum/bone disease) is an inflammatory disease affecting the tissues that surround and support the teeth. Periodontitis involves progressive loss of the bone around the teeth, and if left untreated, can lead to the loosening and subsequent loss of teeth. Periodontitis is caused by microorganisms that stick to and grow on the tooth’s surfaces, along the corresponding aggressive immune response. A diagnosis of periodontitis is established by inspecting the soft gum tissues around the teeth and by looking at x-rays to determine the amount of bone loss around the teeth.
Our expert dental team understand the importance of healthy gum not just for improving the life span of the teeth but also the appearance of the smile. We can help with treatment which involves the thorough cleaning of the pockets of bacteria which, in turn will help prevent further tissue damage. The treatment is thorough but painless and performed under some form of anaesthetic.
